New Year Tips For Achieving Your Best Skin Ever

When it comes to skincare it is easy for us to find ourselves stuck in a rut. Using the same products over and over again and expecting better results (the very definition of insanity). Applying more of our favorite moisturizer in hopes that it will be more effective. Or experimenting with new “buzzy” ingredients that we know nothing about like acids and retinol. Achieving perfect skin is a typical resolution you will find on anyone's list, right next to diet, sleep, exercise, and just taking overall better care of yourself. It is easy to get overwhelmed! That is why we have created a list of OUR 7 favorite skincare tips we recommend you follow to achieve YOUR best skin ever.

Tip #1: Consistency is Key

When adding a new product into your skincare routine, consistency is key. On average, it can take up to 12 weeks to notice any visible results. Changing your products regularly often leads to skin irritation, so be patient and stay consistent.

Tip #2: Cleanse Your Skin Morning & Night

Cleansing your skin at night is mandatory for those of us who wear makeup, but cleansing your skin in the morning is just as important. Cleansing your skin in the morning will “wake-up” your skin and allow any products you apply after to penetrate your skin more effectively.

Tip #3: Introduce a Serum Into Your Routine

The basic building blocks of skincare are a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Serums allow us to customize our routines and tailor them to any issues we want to resolve. Serums are what enable us to deliver some sort of active ingredient into our skin, whether it’s hyaluronic acid for hydration, vitamin C for brightening, glycolic acid for targeting hyperpigmentation, or retinol for minimizing fine lines. Just remember to educate yourself on the active ingredients you are interested in. For example, retinol should not be used if you are trying to get pregnant, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Tip #4: Get to Know the Ingredients

This brings us to the next tip, get to know the ingredients you are using. We are a company that believes you do not have to compromise your health in order to get results, so when it comes to skincare, we obsess over ingredients. That being said, there are quite a few “buzzy” ingredients to avoid before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after while breastfeeding. A few of these ingredients are retinol, essential oils, chemical sunscreens, and benzoyl peroxide. To see what other ingredients to avoid please visit Women's Care.

Tip #5: Simplify Your Routine

We don’t always need the latest and greatest skincare product. Most of us just need to stick to the basic building blocks of a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen that works best for us. It is recommended to simplify your routine and slowly add in serums and other products to help elevate your results and minimize any potential skin damage.

Tip #6: Stop Over-Exfoliating

A few years ago exfoliating devices were all the rage, but since then you have probably noticed that the skincare aisles are no longer stocked with these devices. Over-exfoliating often leads to skin irritation which can cause our skin to appear soar, red, and flaky. We need to be gentle and love our skin, after all it is our biggest organ.

Tip #7: Introduce Silicone Patches Into Your Routine

A common misconception is that when we apply a moisturizer or serum, it absorbs into our skin helping to achieve hydrated skin. This might be true for the top layer of skin, but it is the layers underneath that need the hydration and are most often left neglected. Most ingredients are unable to penetrate below the first layer of skin down to the dermis which is where wrinkles, stretch marks, and other skin issues appear. In order to treat these areas you will need to use active ingredients that can penetrate the first layer of your skin, but unfortunately most of these active ingredients are not safe to use when trying to get pregnant, being pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Silicone patches are the safest and most effective way to target and hydrate every layer of our skin. They work by creating a microclimate that pulls moisture from the lowest layer of our skin all the way up to the top layer. Whether you want to prevent or treat issues such as wrinkles, scars, or stretch marks, we highly suggest introducing silicone patches into your routine. They contain only one ingredient, medical grade silicone, are hypoallergenic, and are 100% safe to use during all stages of pregnancy.
