Save Your Skin: Post Summer Skincare

Summer has come and is almost gone. But your skin is definitely showing the effects of hours of fun in the sun, even if you applied sunblock daily. New brown spots, redness, and blotchiness are just a few skin signs of excess summer sun.

Not to worry: We've got some post summer skincare tips to help you reduce the damage and rejuvenate your skin back to it's pre-summer glow.

Here's what you should do:

1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Sun-damaged skin is thirsty skin, so give it a lot more moisture than you usually do. Invest in a heavier cream for your body, and increase the number of times you apply moisturizer to your face. You can also add an organic rose hip oil at the end of your nightly routine to amp up the moisture.

2. Hydrate. Your body, that is. Increase the amount of water you drink on a daily basis. Not only is it good for you, but it will help your skin recover from a sun-heavy summer. Drink water first thing in the morning, and regularly throughout the day. Minimize coffee and soda, as caffeine actually dehydrates you.

3. Hide out. From the sun. No more hikes in the middle of a sunny afternoon. Instead, go when there's a cloud cover in the morning. And instead of sitting outside when dining out, stay inside or at least choose a shady table. This bit of damage control will help your skin slowly recover.

4. IPL or other laser skin rejuvenators. If your own efforts aren't getting you back to more youthful skin as quickly as you'd like, you can always head to the dermatologist for Intense Pulse Laser (IPL) or other laser treatments to help rejuvenate your skin, and clear it from brown spots, splotchiness, and other signs of sun damage.
