Last-Chance Road TripsAug 04, 2017
The end of summer is approaching - can you believe it? It seems like it just started, but soon, the kids will be back at school, and PTO will seem like a faraway dream. It's time to make the most of the last days of summer, so squeeze some more fun into them by taking a last-minute road trip.
Depending on where you live, here are our top choices for a last-minute road trip this summer.
1. Highway 1/Big Sur - This is the quintessential California road trip. Meandering along the windy Highway 1, along the breathtaking coast. Begin in Southern California (either San Diego or Los Angeles), then make your way through the quaint beach cities of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, all the way to Carmel, Monterey, along the otherworldly coast of Big Sur, and finally, to San Francisco.
2. Route 66 - Spanning 2,500 miles, you may or may not want to drive the entire route, but if you're up for adventure, Route 66 can offer it to you. Running from Chicago to Los Angeles, Route 66 offers the best taste of Americana. This most historical road trip is lined with hundreds of diners, cafes, bars, and attractions that will enchant both young and old. Drive through the Mojave Desert, New Mexico, Oklahoma. Plus, the Grand Canyon is on Route 66!
3. Atlantic Coast - The Atlantic Coast is rife with history, amazing scenery, and endless stops to enjoy. The 2,400 miles from Boston to Key West will create a lifetime of family memories. Sandy, rocky beaches, small towns, lighthouses, woods, retro diners, and urban experiences make up this unique road trip. Don't forget to stop in the Big Apple and Atlantic City for big city and casino action!
