Keep Kids Occupied this Summer!Jul 05, 2017
The kids are out of school and the length of the summer is looming. For parents, one of the biggest challenges in the summer is how to keep their kids occupied. You can't put them in camps all summer long, after all - it gets expensive!
Here are several ideas to keep your kids occupied this summer.
1. Check your local library. Often, most local libraries have summer reading programs, read-aloud story times, and other book-based activities like reading competitions and book clubs for kids. A good (and brain-building!) way to spend a summer afternoon.
2. Try Meetup.com. Meetup is a great site to find other parents. Find playdates, hiking groups, informal sports groups, and more with a quick click of your mouse. With the plethora of groups, you'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to activities for your kids.
3. Encourage the artist. Stock up on inexpensive art supplies, clear a floor or table, and have your kids create a gallery wall filled with their art. Make sure each child is responsible for 2-4 works of art, as this will fill several hours of time. At the end of the day, they'll be proud of what they've done, and you'll be happy they were happily occupied.
4. Let them be bored. Yes, this may sound contra intuitive, but when you let kids be bored, they become imaginative. You know they have tons of toys, books, and gadgets. Let them figure out how to fill their own time. (With limits, of course. You don't want them to be in front of a screen all day.)
