how to reduce stress

Stress is an inevitable part of modern life. Life is busy, technology moves fast, and sometimes it's all you can do to keep up. But unless you get a handle on it, stress can cause all sorts of health problems, including, but not limited to: cancer, heart disease, stroke, and more. Luckily there are some proven ways to deal with it. Here are our top stress relievers.

Meditation - Meditation has been proven to inject much-needed calm into a hectic lifestyle. It literally changes the brain! Plus, it doesn't need to be any certain type of meditation, nor do you have to go to a meditation center. There are plenty of apps that can help newbies and meditation experts alike to slow down and zen out. Just devote a mere 15-20 minutes a day to it, and watch your daily worries become much more manageable.

Exercise - All sorts of exercise can relieve stress - yoga, kickboxing, running, and even a brisk walk. Experts recommend choosing an exercise that you love, and that you can stick with, and doing that several times a week. Not only does this reduce stress, it also helps you get in shape. Win, win!

Look at the big picture - Is what you're stressed about really that important to be losing sleep over? Will it matter a year from now? Five years from now? The answer is most likely "no." Don't stress out about things that may seem big now, but are small in the big picture of your life.

Drink (water, that is) - Water is so important. Lack of sufficient water intake leads to chronic dehydration, which leads to a sluggish system, poor metabolism, and increased daytime fatigue - all of which increases stress. A well body enables you to deal with life's curveballs as they come.

Good nutrition - Hand-in-hand with good hydration is good nutrition. Lack of proper nutrients has been linked to stress, anxiety, and depression. A way to counteract this is taking a good multivitamin. But you can't expect to pop a multivitamin and that's in. Getting nutrients from raw fruits and vegetables, in addition to healthy grains and lean meats, will reduce stress from physical problems and sluggishness caused by a poor diet.
